Navyoni Chakra

  1. The Sri Yantra is a form of mystical diagram, known as a yantra, found in the Shri Vidya school of Hindu tantra, it consists of nine triangles are of various sizes and intersect with one another. In the middle is the point of power (bindu), visualizing the highest, the invisible, elusive centre from which the entire figure and the cosmos expand. The triangles are enclosed by two rows of (8 and 16) petals, representing not only the lotus of creation and reproductive vital force but also resemble four doors. The broken lines of the outer frame denote the figure to be a sanctuary with four openings to the regions of the universe. The four upward facing isosceles triangles represent the masculine or Shiva whereas the five downward facing isosceles triangles represent the feminine or Shakti. Thus the Sri Yantra is also the union of feminine and masculine, also known as Navayoni Chakra due to the presence of its nine triangles. It is also similar to the geometric pattern created by the word “Om” when put through a tonoscope (an instrument used to create patterns corresponding to different sounds.) It also represents the goddess in her form of Shri Lalita (Tripura  Sundari) “the beauty of the three worlds” – Bhoo (Earth), Bhuva (Atmosphere) and Swa (Sky). It is said to have appeared to self realized yogis in samadhi or peak meditative state and is worshipped in one 2D state and two 3D states.
The mathematics involved in the creation of this geometrical calculation is so complex as it contains Pi, Phi, golden ratio or Fibonacci series – this geometric pattern known to the Vedic Sages for millennia has everything in it. Mathematicians are often baffled how Vedic people could have done it without the knowledge of present day mathematics or drawn such a pattern without the help of computers.

Finally the Sri Yantra is like a tuning fork to help yogis connect with the universal consciousness, acting as a geometric representation for the sacred sounds of the universe.
